Saffron

A little gem on the outskirts of Liverpool, Saffron is a genuine Nepalese curry house which deserves its #1 ranking on Tripadvisor.
Robert and I had dinner there last night, after having spent the day travelling from London to Liverpool, including a brief stop in Chester to see the wonderful cathedral.

We don’t know Liverpool very much and we just wanted something easy for dinner (having spent the night before at the Hand & Flowers in Marlow), so we decided to follow Tripadvisor’s recommendation. We took the Metro from Moorfields to Waterloo, a 15 minutes journey north of Liverpool city centre.

We then walked for 10 minutes through a nice residential area before arriving at Saffron. Although we were slightly late, the staff was very nice and we were promptly shown to our table. The restaurant is spacious and spotless clean.

We were quite hungry so we decided to share some poppadum while waiting for our starters.

The starters, tandoori king prawns and lamb chops, were delicious – flavoursome and cooked very well.

I liked the ‘S’ and a small bird made with a carrot that garnished the plate.

Our main, salmon tandoori and chicken balti, were also lovely. Again, the presentation was great.

And I really enjoyed my lemon rice, which I thought accompanied the salmon perfectly.

Although slightly out of town, it’s a well worth trip to experience genuine Indian Nepalese cuisine in a friendly environment
