The Sheep Heid Inn

The second day we spent in Edinburgh, we decided to visit Holyroodhouse Palace, a very interest place with an amazing backdrop (you can see Arthur’s seat from the gardens).

Looking for a place for lunch, we decided to walk to the Sheep Heid Inn, just on the other side of the park – we were curious to try this pub since we read that the Queen recently had dinner there with some friends – so we thought we couldn’t go wrong!

And we were not disappointed indeed! The decor of the pub is lovely, it feels very warm, homely and… Scottish!

We ordered Sunday roast (what else on a Sunday!) – beef for Robert and chicken for me. As you can see from the photos, portions were very generous and the presentation was outstanding! And I can guarantee that everything, from the meat to the vegetables to the Yorkshire pudding, was cooked to perfection and incredibly tasty.

Being still hungry after a long walk around the city and the park, we ordered dessert – a fantastic-looking Eton mess for Robert and a lovely cheese platter for me.

I was very impressed with the food, but a special mention goes to the Thistly Cross elderflower cider, very refreshing and sharp & sweet at the same time. Hopefully I can find some of this in London!

Unfortunately there was no Queen when we went there, but this gastro pub is a great spot!
